GUNUNGKIDUL - The Health Office (Dinkes) of Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), conducted a search of 125 residents in Semanu District who consumed positive beef antraks to anticipate the spread of anti-extraction in humans.

Head of the Gunungkidul Health Office, Dewi Irawaty, said that based on the search, 125 residents participated in slaughtering and eating beef which was positive for antrax.

"We took their blood samples for further examination at BBTKLPP (Balai Besar Environmental Health Engineering and Disease Control) Yogyakarta. The results of the examination stated that 85 residents were positive for anti-extraction, with symptoms of 18 people," said Dewi.

He said residents whose blood samples were taken experienced symptoms of gunshot wounds. There are also those who experience diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, and so on. Those who are symptomatic or do not get antibiotics as treatment.

"However, there are no residents who have to be treated at the hospital because of symptoms," he said.

Dewi said that until now the Health Office is still conducting surveillance at the location where the anti-extraction case was found.

"The surveillance process is still running today, for two incubation periods or 120 days since the report was received," he said.

Dewi assessed that education to the public still needs to be intensified. This case originated from their own behavior. The Antraks case in Padukuhan Jati is the first time this has happened. However, he hopes that the transmission will not spread and will not happen again.

"They are advised not to eat beef or goats that are sick or die suddenly," he said.

Head of the Gunungkidul Animal Husbandry and Health Service (DPKH) Wibawanti Wulandari said that his party carried out socialization directly to residents who live in the location where the anti-match case was found. It also provides antibiotics to the public.

"We also vaccinate livestock to disinfectants to living livestock, including minimizing livestock out of areas affected by anti-extraction," he said.
