Indonesian Ministry Of Foreign Affairs: Conditions Of Indonesian Citizens In Russia Are Safe Amid Wagner Paramilitary Insurgency

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the condition of Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Russia remains safe amid the insurgency of the Wagner mercenaries group.

"The condition of the Indonesian citizens is safe and they remain calm," said Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha in a statement obtained by Antara in Jakarta, Sunday.

He added that currently there are 14 Indonesian citizens in Voronezh and 11 people in Rostov.

Previously, the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow had issued an appeal to Indonesian citizens in several regions in Russia to remain calm, be careful and increase vigilance due to security situations.

"This appeal is the responsibility of the Indonesian Embassy to provide alerts to Indonesian citizens on various possible security threats. The Indonesian Embassy will always provide updates from time to time," said Judha.

In a statement released via social media on Sunday, the Indonesian Embassy also appealed to Indonesian citizens to always carry identity documents (passports) in traveling and daily activities in connection with efforts to increase security security in public places, public transportation, train stations and airports.

The Indonesian Embassy appealed to Indonesian citizens in Moscow and Moscow Oblast to limit travel outside the city except for urgent needs. The appeal is related to an increase in the inspection of the authorities on the way out and to Moscow.

The Indonesian Embassy in Moscow also appealed to all Indonesian citizens in Russia not to travel to Rostov and Voronezh until the local situation was conducive.

For Indonesian citizens in the Rostov and Voronezh areas, the Indonesian Embassy specifically appealed to them to comply with local government regulations not to leave their homes or dormitories and residences if there is no urgent situation.
