Immigration In Bali Deports Palestinian Foreigners Former Terrorism Prisoners

DENPASAR - The Immigration Office in Bali deported a foreign national (WNA) from Palestine for being a former narcotics convict.

"Foreigners who are considered to be able to interfere with public security and order, Immigration officials can wear deterrence for life," said Denpasar Babay Baenullah, Head of Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) Babay Baenullah as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, June 17.

However, the decision period of deterrence will be decided by the Directorate General of Immigration by looking at and considering all of his cases.

There is also a temporary deterrence for Palestinians with the initials AMHM in accordance with Article 99 in conjunction with Article 102 paragraph 3 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

He explained that AMHM had served a sentence of one year and six months in prison at the Bangli State Detention Center (Rutan), Bali.

The 38-year-old man was released from prison on April 22, 2023 and handed over to the Denpasar Immigration Office.

However, AMHM could not be immediately deported immediately so he was temporarily placed in the Denpasar Rudenim for a total of 56 days until he was finally forcibly repatriated to Palestine on Friday (16/6).

Based on Immigration records, AMHM entered Indonesia in February 2019 for reasons of vacation.

However, in March 2019, he registered as a refugee to the representative office of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Indonesia. He then released his status as a refugee to leave Indonesia before receiving deportation.

Then, on December 14, 2021, the man was arrested by police officers for carrying out narcotics transactions in front of a modern shop in Kuta, Badung Regency.

From his pocket, officers found a plastic clip containing clear crystals containing methamphetamine with a net weight of 0.16 grams which he admitted for his own consumption.

Based on records from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Bali Province, Immigration on the Island of the Gods from January to June 12, 2023, deported 144 foreigners.

Meanwhile, since the international door was reopened in Bali from May 2022 to December 2022, deportations from Indonesian territory through Bali reached 194 people.

The most foreigners from Russia reached 38 people, then England (11), Nigeria (9), the United States (8) and Australia (8).

Naughty foreigners who are subject to sanctions include abusing residence permits, bypassing residence permits and criminal acts to violating the norms and laws in force in Indonesia.
