KSP: Perpetrators Of Racism Must Be Resolved Firmly

JAKARTA - Deputy V, the Presidential Chief of Staff, Jaleswari Pramodhawardani, reminded the public that all forms of discrimination, both speech and action, have no place in this country. Therefore, any difference in views on a problem is not justified using a discriminatory response.

Because, this is contrary to existing regulations, especially Law no. 40 of 2008 concerning the Elimination of Racial and Ethnic Discrimination.

This refers to the statement on the Facebook account with the name Ambroncius Nababan which contains elements of SARA, which has caused public unrest and protests, especially the Papuan people.

According to Jaleswari, Ambroncius' statement did not reflect the principle of Indonesian diversity which respects differences based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender and diffability as well as plurality and multi-culture as national identity.

In addition, the Indonesian constitution guarantees this diversity and is revealed in various legal instruments, such as Law No. 39/1999 on Human Rights.

"On this basis, the Police as the law enforcement apparatus should not hesitate to enforce the law on this case quickly and firmly," said Jaleswari, in a statement received by VOI, Monday, January 25.

Jaleswari emphasized that based on existing regulations, acts of discrimination can be in the form of showing hatred or hatred towards people due to racial and ethnic differences in the form of making writing or pictures to be placed, affixed, or disseminated in public places or other places that can be seen or read by other people.

Jaleswari also reminded all Indonesian citizens that there is no tolerance and impunity for anyone who acts discriminatively on any basis, including race and ethnicity.

"This is a strong warning for individuals or groups not to play with SARA, because the government will without doubt take tough and firm action against all forms of action that could threaten the unity of the state and nation," added Jaleswari.
