Dozens Of PMI TIP Perpetrators In NTT Malacca Have Been Arrested By The Police

The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police arrested the alleged perpetrator of the Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) with the initials AK against dozens of non-procedural Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Malacca Regency.

"The arrest of the perpetrators of the TIP was carried out by the Malacca Police in Laekeun Village, Kobalima District, Malacca Regency on Wednesday, June 7," said Head of Public Relations of the NTT Police Kombes Ariasandy in Kupang, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 8.

AK admitted that he had worked as an officer who recruited prospective migrant workers in the district from 2021 to June 2022.

"The suspect admitted that he had recruited 21 prospective migrant workers consisting of four men and 17 female people," he added.

From the results of the interim examination, it is also known that in the recruitment process AK cooperates with a man who is called Toke.

Toke himself is in Malaysia and is the boss who received the recruitment of non-procedural PMI candidates. AK is paid Rp. 4 million to Rp. 5 million for each PMI candidate by Toke if he is able to send PMI candidates to Malaysia.

In carrying out his recruitment action, AK met directly with the victims and offered jobs with the lure of working abroad as cleaning staff, child guards, housemaid, and restaurant waiter.

Every month the victims are promised to be paid 200 ringgit or equivalent to IDR 3-IDR 4 million per month.

"The suspect also gave wages to the parents of the victims with a total money of Rp. 5 million, with the aim that parents should let go of their child's departure," he added.

Modes like this are often used by recruiters to recruit PMI candidates in NTT. The police hope that the people of NTT can be aware of this.
