Four Chinese military aircraft and four Russian military aircraft entered South Korea's air defense identification zone (KADIZ) without notice on Tuesday, the South Korean military said, prompting the country's Air Force to send its fighter jets to the scene.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said between 11.52 and 13.49 (local time) the planes of China and Russia entered the southern and eastern parts of KADIZ, respectively, and left.
"They did not violate South Korean airspace," he added as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 6.
"Our military identified Chinese and Russian aircraft before they entered KADIZ and (we) deployed Air Force fighters to take tactical steps in preparation for potential accidental situations," the JCS said in a text message sent to reporters.

The entry of these planes into KADIZ came after the South Korean, United States (US) and Japan defense chiefs highlighted their commitment to strengthening trilateral security cooperation on the sidelines of Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual security conference in Singapore, over the weekend.
The air defense zone is not a territorial airspace but is characterized by asking foreign aircraft to identify themselves to prevent accidental clashes.
