Saudi Arabian Vice President-Dubes Discuss Strengthening Economic Cooperation

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia Faisal Abdullah H. Amodi discussed efforts to strengthen Indonesia-Saudi Arabia's economic cooperation, at a lunch meeting, at the ambassador's residence in Jakarta.

According to the spokesman for the Vice President Masduki Baidlowi, one of the things discussed in the meeting was the hope of Ambassador Faisal to the Government of Indonesia, so that entrepreneurs from Indonesia could invest in Medina, Mecca, Jeddah, Riyadh, or new tourist destinations being developed by the Government of Saudi Arabia.

What is even more important, he (the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia) is (investing) in new tourist destinations. For example, in the northern region of Medina, there are so many interesting historical places such as Mada'in and various places. It is hoped that investors will find it

"Indonesia can come there. That's roughly what the Saudi Arabian Ambassador discussed," Masduki said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 6.

In addition, Ambassador Faisal also revealed that although the number of memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia was recorded quite a lot, only a few could be realized for now.

The MoU is in contact with various fields, such as health, culture, development of small and medium enterprises, scientific and higher education, Islamic affairs, marine and fisheries, and eradicating crime.

Therefore, said Masduki, Ambassador Faisal hopes that the agreement can be realized soon in an effort to strengthen investment cooperation between the two countries.

Responding to this, Masduki explained that the Vice President responded positively to Ambassador Faisal's wish and would soon hold a special meeting with various relevant ministries/agencies, including the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), in order to encourage better economic cooperation, not just relations that have been running so far at the level of site to people relations and relationships in Hajj/umrah services.

"It will be found because the reason (the MoU has not been realized), the background, and will be unraveled so that there is a new wisdom in the future and so that investment between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia can run well everything," he said.

However, on the other hand, said Masduki, the Vice President also asked for mutual relations between the two countries, and asked Saudi Arabian entrepreneurs to also be encouraged to invest in Indonesia.
