ABB President Director: Jakarta E-Prix Supports Energy Transition

JAKARTA-President Director & Country Holding Officer of PT ABB Sakti Industri Gerard Chan hopes that this weekend's Formula E-Prix Jakarta will be an example of an event that supports the transition of fossil fuel energy to electrical energy.

"This event (Formula E Jakarta 2033) is important because it supports the energy transition, this event also shows what electric vehicles can do. I think many people are skeptical about electric vehicles. But through this event, people can see what this energy can do," said President Director & Country Holding Officer of PT ABB Sakti Industri Gerard Chan as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, June 3.

Formula E has introduced a new generation of electric racing cars this season, namely Spark Gen 3 with a battery of 60 kWh.

For battery charging specifications, ABB makes a "charger" with specifications per outlet reaching 160 kw. Meanwhile, if one outlet is used for the disbursement of two vehicles, the charging will be divided into 80 kw.

An electric car race that wants to follow the success and popularity of Formula 1, which still uses traditional inner engines and fuels, is entering its ninth season of implementation.

During the race in 2023, Gulavit Jakarta E-Prix at the Ancol International Circuit, Jakarta, Saturday, electric racing cars that appeared along 36 laps on the track with a track length of 2.37 km, with 18 bends traveling without experiencing any problems with battery life.

Project Manager of ABB Bas Belix revealed that the Spark Gen 3 car is much safer to drive. Even when recharging the battery, now mechanics does not need to wear security clothes, in contrast to Spark Gen 2.

In today's 10th series race, the TAG Heuer Porsche racer, Pascal Wehrlein, suppressed the resistance of Maximilian Guenther (MSG Racing Maserati) to seize the top podium.

Wehrlein started the race from third on the grid, with Guenther and Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti) starting in first and second positions. The three leading riders exchanged positions for the lead position of the race until the plaid flag flew. Wehrlein was able to cope with pressure from his two rivals quickly and calmly by becoming the first to cross the finish line with a thin margin of 0.477 seconds ahead of Dennis. Meanwhile, Guenther had to settle for third place 1.43 seconds later.
