Broken Roads, 160 Schools Affected By Floods, Forcing Thousands Of Acehnese Children To Have School Holidays

JAKARTA - Thousands of schoolchildren and teachers in Aceh Tamiang District, Aceh Province were forced to take time off from teaching and learning activities following floods that inundated schools in the last few days.

Apart from schools, the impact of the floods has cut off road access to schools. Head of the Aceh Tamiang Regency Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud), Zulfiqar, said the schools that were affected by the flood were spread across 10 sub-districts.

Includes, Bandar Pusaka, Tamiang Hulu, Tenggulun, Sekerak, Young Vocational, Kuala Simpang City, Karang Baru, Rantau, Seruway, and Bendahara.

"The children were not closed, but many students and teachers could not learn to teach because their school was flooded. Apart from being flooded, students and teachers were also unable to go to school because the road access to where they were learning and teaching was cut off," he explained. , Friday, January 22.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Basic Education Division of the Aceh Tamiang District Education and Culture Office, Bambang Supriyanto, said that out of 378 school buildings in the district, 160 of them were flooded.

Bambang Supriyanto said students whose schools were affected by flooding, could not attend teaching and learning. Disdikbud understands the conditions in the field.

"There is no policy to dismiss the teaching and learning process in Aceh Tamiang. Teachers continue to enter because not all schools are flooded," said Bambang Supriyanto.

Bambang Supriyanto hopes that the floods that inundate hundreds of school buildings will soon recede, so that teaching and learning activities will return to normal.

"The impact of this flood has damaged school facilities and infrastructure, such as books in libraries, parks, and school environments due to flood materials," said Bambang Supriyanto.
