President Xi Jinping Urges To Accelerate National Security System And Capacity Modernization Efforts

JAKARTA - Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for accelerating efforts to modernize the country's national security system and capacity.

Xi, who is also General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while presiding over the first meeting of the National Security Commission under the 20th CPC Central Committee, where Xi is head of the commission.

Quoted from Xinhua on May 31, President Xi called for staying alert to the complicated and challenging situation facing national security, well understanding key national security issues.

Furthermore, he urged efforts to keep China's new development pattern with new security architecture, making new breakthroughs in national security work.

Summarizing the commission's work, the meeting said it had firmly protected the interests of national sovereignty, security, and development. National security has been comprehensively strengthened, according to the meeting.

The national security issues facing China today are "much more complex and much more difficult to resolve," the meeting said.

Furthermore, the meeting stressed the need to be prepared for worst-case scenarios and extreme scenarios, and to be prepared for "strong winds, choppy waters, and even dangerous storms."

In addition, the meeting also called for taking the initiative to establish a favorable external security environment for China, to better protect its openness and promote deep development and security integration.

Next, the meeting also called for reforming the approach used in maintaining and establishing national security.

The meeting urged special efforts to maintain political security and improve governance of internet data security and artificial intelligence. Also called for more expedited efforts to establish risk monitoring systems and early warning systems.

It is known that the meeting adopted a document on accelerating the development of a national security risk monitoring system, an early warning system and other documents on strengthening public communication regarding national security.
