KUPANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to residents in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) season zone which has entered the dry season to start saving on the use of clean water to anticipate the scarcity of water supplies.

"Residents in 22 season zones in NTT that have entered the dry season, we urge them to start saving on water use so that needs can be met throughout the dry season," said Head of the BMKG NTT Climatology Station Rahmattulloh Adji in Kupang as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 24.

He explained that the current conditions in NTT generally experience rainy days to days without long-category rain.

In the prediction of rainfall in the next 10 days, he said, the NTT region is generally predicted to have a significant chance of falling rainfall.

This condition, he said, was in line with the entry of the dry season period with rainfall of less than 20 millimeters/based on the opportunity to occur above 70 percent.

Adji explained that currently there are 22 zero regions out of a total of 28 zoms in NTT that have entered the dry season in 2023.

Therefore, the potential threat of drought has also begun to increase which has an impact on reducing groundwater supplies, causing water scarcity in the community.

"So residents need to use adequate water for their needs or not wasteful to anticipate the impact of drought," he said.

Adji also appealed to residents in the province not to clear land by burning without being accompanied by related parties, because this could trigger a large fire that had an impact on the environment.
