BNPB Records That The West Sulawesi Earthquake Caused 9,910 People To Be Displaced, 91 People Died

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) until Thursday, January 21 at 08.00 WIB recorded that the death toll from an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 in West Sulawesi (Sulbar) had increased to 91 people.

"The victim died 91 people, missing 3 people, seriously injured 253 people, minor injuries 679 people, and moderate injuries 240 people," said Head of the Center for Disaster Data, Information and Communication BNPB, Raditya Jati in a release received in Jakarta, Thursday, 21 January.

The number of people who were displaced was 9,910 people and scattered in several refugee points. In detail, Mamuju Regency has been identified while 5 points of refuge, such as in Jalu two points, Mamuju Stadium, Mamuju City Gate, Tapalang, and the Regent's Office.

Meanwhile, in Majene District, 2 points were identified, namely SPN Malunda and Sulet Malunda Village.

After the earthquake, emergency response efforts are still ongoing. The Governor of West Sulawesi has declared Earthquake Disaster Emergency Response status for 14 days, starting from 15 to 28 January 2021.

Furthermore, he said, seeing the impact of disasters, people were always urged to remain vigilant and alert. Especially in relation to hydrometeorological disasters and other potential hazards, namely earthquakes that can occur at any time, such as the one in West Sulawesi Province.
