The Governor of North Sumatra (Gubsu) Edy Rahmayadi is targeting to complete 70 percent of damaged road repairs that occur in a number of districts/cities in the local province.

"There is a district road, there is a provincial road, there is a national road. Indeed, I apologize to the people of North Sumatra. Let me not think about district roads, provincial roads that are 3,005 kilometers long, the longest road in the whole world, I am still trying to be able to finish at least 65 percent to 70 percent," said Governor Edy, in Medan as reported by ANTARA, Friday, May 19.

Gubsu also said that he was still trying to provide Revenue Sharing Funds (DBH) to increase the infrastructure development budget.

"This is our ability. I also urge the profit-sharing fund to carry out infrastructure improvements in North Sumatra. All national roads must also know. Moreover, district roads. This is what we must do together," he said.

Therefore, Governor Edy asked the public to always support the infrastructure problem in North Sumatra to be resolved.

"It's not collaborating with all parties, this is what all parties have to understand and pray for. Don't blame each other, we work, we are serious about praying," he said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo inspected a damaged road in North Labuhan Batu Regency, North Sumatra Province with Deputy Governor Musa Rajekshah, Wednesday (17/5/2023).

Jokowi asked the North Sumatra Provincial Government to repair damaged roads in the province to encourage regional economic growth.

Jokowi said the national road in North Sumatra stretches along 2,600 kilometers, and the damage occurs along 260 kilometers. The provincial road section stretches along 3,005 kilometers and is 340 kilometers of damage.

"Many of these district roads are damaged. Of the 33,000 kilometers in North Sumatra, approximately 13,000 kilometers were damaged. One of them is what we see in North Labuhanbatu," said President Jokowi.

Jokowi said that the repair of road damage in North Sumatra will be divided into works. This means that there is damage that will be repaired by the central government, and there is part of the damage repaired by the provincial government and district/city governments

Jokowi promised to repair damaged roads in North Sumatra starting July 2023.

"Everything in North Sumatra remains the same for us, something is being done by the governor, something is being done by the regent, some are taken over by a center that is about a province or district or city that does not have the ability to do it," he said.
