Three Districts In Aceh Tamiang Flooded Up To 1.5 Meters

JAKARTA - Head of the BNPB Disaster Data and Communication Committee, Raditya Jati, said the flood had inundated three sub-districts in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province since Wednesday, January 20 evening.

"Water is still inundating three sub-districts in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province due to the flood that occurred on Wednesday at 20.00 WIB with a water level of 30 to 150 centimeters," Raditya said in his statement, Thursday, January 21.

The three districts affected are Bandar Pusaka District which has an impact on Pengidam Village, Bengekelang Village, Babo Village, Multipurpose Village, Cempa Beach Village.

Furthermore, Tenggulun District which has an impact on Gampong Simpang Kiri, and Sekerak District which has an impact on Gampong Juar and Gampong Baling Karang.

"Settlements in the three sub-districts were still overflowing due to high intensity rain," said Raditya.

BPBD Aceh Tamiang District reported that 760 houses were submerged, 1,562 people were displaced and 3,075 people were affected by the flood. Until now, BPBD Aceh Tamiang Regency has collected data and coordinates with village officials.

Furthermore, based on InaRisk's analysis, Raditya said that Aceh Tamiang District has a moderate to high risk of flood disasters with 12 sub-districts and 128,435 people exposed.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) also predicts that the weather in Aceh Province has the potential for heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

"The National Disaster Management Agency urges the public to always be vigilant and alert to the rainy season which will still occur until the end of February 2021," he concluded.
