JAYAPURA - The Yahukimo district government, Papua Mountains, supports law enforcement efforts carried out by the TNI-Polri against armed criminal groups (KKB) in this area.

Yahukimo Regent Didimus Yahuli said the arrest of 22 people on Tuesday (16/5) suspected of being involved in a case of violence in Dekai District was an attempt to enforce the law.

"This is an implementation of the police's firm stance regarding cases of violence that occurred in Dekai," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 17.

According to Yahuli, the action was aimed at stopping acts of violence against residents in Yahukimo Regency.

He explained that the arrest of 22 people suspected of being KKB sympathizers in the case of assaulting residents in Dekai District was carried out by the Cartenz Peace Task Force and the Yahukimo Police.

"They were arrested on Tuesday, at 02.54 WIT at the Oboi Complex, Dekai District," he said.

He added that after examining 22 people who were arrested, if they were proven not guilty, they would be sent home.

"But if found guilty, it will be punished because the local government protects all people without distinguishing where they came from," he said.

He said that in law enforcement carried out by the TNI and Polri without discriminating, his party appealed to the entire community in the area to maintain security and order.
