JAKARTA - The Pulogadung Sector Police, East Jakarta, arrested a woman who works as a household assistant on charges of throwing a baby into a water channel.

"Yesterday we secured the mother. We created a team to trace the baby's parents. It turns out that the initials C (17) is a household member in Kayuputih Village," said Pulogadung Police Chief, Kompol Beddy Suwendi in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, January 20.

According to C's confession to the police, the chronology of the incident began on Sunday, January 17 at around 09.00 WIB, C felt heartburn and then went to his employer's bathroom.

Suddenly the baby was born but was dead. "Then the baby's body is rolled up in the clothes and put in a bag and stored in the corner of the bathroom," said Beddy.

One of the three C's colleagues in one house then queued in front of the bathroom. "Because he was too late in the bathroom, his roommate opened the door, he asked whether he had not, it turned out that there was a lot of blood stained and then reported to the employer," he said.

The employer then gave her a towel to clean the blood spilled on the bathroom floor.

Then C was taken to the midwife, but was referred to a private hospital in the Tanjung Priok area because his condition was severe.

"But because C had to join COVID-19 patients, the employer didn't want to, so he looked for other hospitals that were willing to serve," he said.

When an ultrasound was checked, said Beddy, the doctor stated that the baby was not there and was given medication to reduce bleeding.

"At 15.00 WIB, C was asked not to work to rest. After two nights, an unpleasant odor appeared in the employer's house, but C said that the smell came from his bloodstained shirt," he said.

When the employer asked C to clean her clothes, said Beddy, the woman immediately rushed to the river which is about 200 meters from the employer's house to dispose of the baby's body.

"Only in the morning were officers from the Sanitation Sub-dept. When they were sidelined, the plastic was torn and the baby came out. Then they reported it to the Pulogadung Police. We will follow up by tracing CCTV," he said.

Armed with screenshots from CCTV footage, the police trace the baby-thrower who leads to C.

"We went to his residence and he (C) did not deny it. His act was done by C because the man who became the father of the baby did not want to be responsible. His girlfriend was in Sukabumi," he said.

Currently the police treat the case as a case involving minors.

"We are still examining the mother of the baby. We are treating minors," he said.
