Determine Policy Steps, 4 Human Rights Institutions Sign A Memorandum Of Understanding On The TPKS Law

JAKARTA - A total of 4 Human Rights State Institutions (LNHAM) held a meeting to sign a memorandum of mutual agreement related to the Law (UU) on Sexual Violence Crimes (TPKS). "We held this event specifically in order to increase capacity so that LNHAM can carry out development, coordination and joint monitoring of TPKS," said Chairman of the National Commission for Disabilities, Dante Rigmelia on the sidelines of signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Cawang Kencana Building, Jakarta, Thursday, May 11. The four LNHAMs that signed the memorandum of mutual agreement were the National Commission for Disabilities (KND), the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), the National Commission for Anti-Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan), and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).

Dante said the signing of the memorandum of understanding is a concrete and strategic step, so that it can reflect on one year the TPKS Law applies so that it becomes an important note in determining policy steps. "With the implementation of one year of the TPKS Law, we hope to minimize and eliminate irresponsible practices," said Dante.

On the same occasion, Deputy for Child Special Protection, Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), Nahar said the government has a responsibility for implementing the law for three years. Nahar explained that the TPKS Law was not only ratified by the government, but was also fully controlled in its implementation. Previously, Law no. 12 of 2022 was stipulated as the TPKS Law on May 9, 2022. This event was also held to commemorate the enactment of the law.

The implementation of the TPKS Law requires cooperation from various parties, especially to law enforcement officials so that it can apply properly. "We hope that between July and December 2023 there will be good news in its implementation, because we need to support this effort," he said.
