Experiencing Engine Disruption, Batam Destination Ferry Burns In Singapore Waters

The ferry bound for Batam from Singapore, MV Queen Star 2, caught fire. The news of the burning of the MV Queen Star 2 ferry was first uploaded by Singapore (Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore) on his Facebook social media, informed that the ship caught fire while sailing to Batam.

It is suspected that the fire came from an engine room in the waters of Kusu Island, Singapore.

"Yes, that's right, the information we received was that there was a disturbance in the engine room. It happened last afternoon, Friday (5/5)," said KKP Police Chief Iptu Putra Jaya Tarigan when contacted in Batam Riau Islands, Saturday.

From the information they received, it was known that the ship was carrying dozens of passengers who were about to sail to Batam. At the time of the incident, the security forces of the Singapore (Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore immediately evacuated all passengers.

"There are 62 passengers, we have not received the detailed incident because it happened in Singapore," he said.

All passengers who have been evacuated, he said, are certain to be safe. They are welcome to make a voyage by another ship to Batam.

"Passengers who were evacuated from the ship are welcome to again make a voyage to Batam by another ship," he said.

From the information received, he said, the ship experienced engine problems when it had just sailed from Harborofront Harbor, Singapore.

The ship experienced engine disruption when it had only sailed about 5 minutes from Harborfront Harbor, Singapore.

"Information only about 5 minutes from Singapore. The incident was immediately handled by the Singaporean authorities," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 6.
