Couples In Tanjungpinang Police Arrested For Buying Cell Phones With Counterfeit Money

TANJUNGPINANG - The Tanjungpinang Police Team, Riau Islands (Kepri) arrested a husband and wife (a couple) with the initials YA (23) and G (23). The couple was arrested by the police for buying a cellphone (HP) using counterfeit money.

Tanjungpinang Police Chief AKBP Fernando said the disclosure of this case began when YA and G were about to buy a cellphone at a shop in the Bukit Bestari District, Tanjungpinang City, Saturday, January 16.

However, the seller was suspicious of the money used by the two. Then the victim took the initiative to report to the Bukit Bestari Police.

"The reporter or the victim suspected that the money belonging to both of them was fake, because the Rp1.7 million that the victim received had the same serial number," said AKBP Fernando as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 19.

After receiving the report, the police immediately came to the scene of the crime (TKP) and arrested the husband and wife.

Based on the statements of the two, said the police chief, the counterfeit money was printed by themselves using their own printer.

"The two perpetrators faked money after learning from the internet for about two weeks," said the police chief.

In this case, the police confiscated 62 counterfeit bills of Rp100 thousand, one printer, five ink canisters, two printer cartridges, 300 sheets of A4 size pink paper, and a motorbike used by the perpetrator.

The two perpetrators are subject to Article 26 paragraph (1), (2), (3) in conjunction with Article 36 paragraph (1), (2), (3) Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning the Currency of the Republic of Indonesia with the threat of imprisonment at the longest. 10 years to 15 years.
