YOGYAKARTA - Former General Chairperson (Ketum) Hanura Wiranto visited the Gerindra Party and PPP ahead of the 2024 General Election. Wiranto's political visit near the year of the Indonesian democratic party received public attention. The public is curious about Wiranto's political footprint and his role in the Hanura Party.

Wiranto is an Indonesian political figure who is also a retired TNI general. Wiranto was born in Yogyakarta on April 4, 1947. He is the son of the couple Wirowijoto and Suwarsijah Hospitals. Wiranto married Hj. Rugaiya Usman, SH.

Wiranto studied the National Military Academy and graduated in 1968. Previously, Wiranto received high school education at SMA N 4 Surakarta.

Wiranto then continued his studies at the Army Staff and Command School in 1984. In 1995, he took a lecture at the Open University in the State Administration department.

In 1995, Wiranto was noted to have entered the Indonesian National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas). He then entered the AHM-THM Military Law College in 1996. After that, he took master (S2) education majoring in the STIE-IPWI Jakarta Management Master in 2006. Six years later, Wiranto managed to get a doctorate in HR Management from the Jakarta State University (UNJ).

Wiranto has been in politics since 1998. At that time he was a member of the Golkar Party's Board of Trustees. In 2006, Wiranto founded the Hanura Party as well as became the General Chair (Ketum) in the party. He served as Ketum Hanura until 2019.

Wiranto had several times advanced in the Presidential Election (Pilpres), namely in 2004, 2009, and 2014. In 2004, Wiranto ran for the presidential candidate for the Salahuddin Wahid pair who was promoted by Golkar. Unfortunately they had to lose to the SBY and Jusuf Kalla pairs.

In 2009, Wiranto ran as vice president of Jusuf Kalla. However, they have not yet been successfully elected as President and Vice President. In 20014, Wiranto also ran for presidential candidate with Hary Tanoesoedibjo. But both of them did not qualify for the next stage between the votes from the Hanura Party.

Wiranto is the initiator of the formation of the Hanura Party in November 2006. After retiring from the military world, Wiranto entered politics as the key figure in Hanura's birth.

Wiranto had run as a vice presidential candidate to accompany Jusuf Kalla in the 2009 presidential election. Unfortunately, the election contestation was won by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono.

Regarding Wiranto's current position in the Hanura Party, the Wantimpres of the era of President Jokowi has apparently left Hanura. Wiranto revealed his reason for leaving Hanura, which is currently chaired by Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO).

Wiranto likens Hanura as a warship. The TNI (Ret.) general said that the navigation of the Hanura ship was no longer in line with his thoughts.

"Because of one thing and another where the navigation did not match what I expected, I was forced to release the warship," said Wiranto at the PPP DPP Office, on Monday (1/5).

In addition, Wiranto brought carriages from his former party, about a hundred Hanura cadres to join PPP. Wiranto said that there were many potential Hanura cadres.

Wiranto hopes that hundreds of former Hanura can become legislative candidates from PPP in the 2024 election. Wiranto believes the people of his choice can contribute to winning PPP in next year's election.
