Jerinx SID's Sentence Reduced By 4 Months

DENPASAR - The sentence of the defendant in the case of hate speech against the Bali IDI I Gede Ary Astina alias Jrx SID was reduced by 4 months in the appeal decision of the Bali High Court. In the appeal decision, Jerinx was sentenced to 10 months in prison from the previous sentence of 14 months in the Denpasar District Court decision.

"Then the verdict remains guilty as previously charged with 10 months imprisonment, a fine of Rp10 million and a subsidiary of 1 month in prison is reduced while the defendant is in detention," said Denpasar District Court Chairman Sobandi as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 19.

He said the file of the appeal decision was received by the Denpasar District Court on January 14, 2021. This decision was immediately communicated to the public prosecutor and legal adviser.

"So later, after being notified of the verdict within seven days, whether to accept or reject the verdict, so there are still legal remedies," he said.

If within seven days the public prosecutor and his legal adviser do not file a cassation after the time limit of seven days, the decision is legally binding.

Until now, the defendant Jrx, who is also the drummer for the band Superman Is Dead, is still being detained at the Class IIA Kerobokan Prison, Badung.

Previously, on November 19, 2020, the panel of judges at the Denpasar District Court chaired by Ida Ayu Adnya Dewi sentenced the defendant I Gede Ary Astina alias Jrx to a sentence of one year and two months in prison.

In this case I Gede Ary Astina was legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a criminal act intentionally and without the right to disseminate information aimed at creating hatred or hostility for certain groups of people, based on the principle of intergroups.
