JAKARTA - The National Police Criminal Investigation Unit will hand over files and suspects in the burglary case of Maybank customer funds belonging to Winda Earl worth Rp.22.8 billion to the public prosecutor (JPU).

The suspect in this case is Albert who is a former Head of the Maybank Cipulir Branch. The delegation of stage 2 or P21 to the Prosecutor's Office was carried out after the investigating prosecutor assessed that the case investigation file was complete from a formal and material perspective.

"Coordination with the prosecutor has been carried out. Phase II is planned for the 3rd week of January 2021," said the Director of Special Economic Crimes (Dirtipideksus), Brigadier General Helmi Santika, to reporters, Tuesday, January 19.

Helmi also said that the former investigation had actually been declared complete since December. But the official letter from the prosecutor's office regarding the matter was only received by Bareskrim investigators on January 4.

Apart from the delegation process, Helmi emphasized that the investigation of this case does not stop here. This is because investigators are still investigating assets and other allegations.

"The case was declared complete by the prosecutor's office on December 18, 2020, perhaps because of the year-end holidays, the letter was received on January 4, 2021," he said.

In this case, the investigator used Article 49 Paragraph (1) and Paragraph (2) of Law Number 10 of 1998 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 1992 concerning Banking. Then Article 3, Article 4 and Article 5 of Law no. 8 of 2010 concerning Prevention and Eradication of the Crime of Money Laundering.

The suspect Albert is known to have committed a crime by offering the victim to open a futures account and falsifying data.

To smooth the action, the Head of the Maybank Cipulir Branch seduced the victim with a high interest rate of 10 percent if he wanted to open a term account. Even though there is no amount of interest for term savings as stated by him.

Until finally, the victim followed that direction. But instead of making a profit, the victim's money disappeared in the hands of the suspect.
