US House Speaker Refuses Loyalist Donald Trump To Become NSA General Counsel

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi rejected the nomination of Donald Trump loyalist Michael Ellis as General Counsel for the National Security Agency (NSA). This request was conveyed by Pelosi in his letter to Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller.

Pelosi emphasized that the inauguration of security officials in a strategic position ahead of the end of Donald Trump's administration is certainly a suspicious question. he also asked the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Defense to investigate the nomination process.

"I ask that you immediately stop your plans to incorrectly induct Michael Ellis as the new NSA General Counsel," Pelosi wrote in a letter to Miller.

Pelosi said emphatically, the attempt to "immerse" Ellis in a highly sensitive intelligence position 72 hours before the start of the new government, showed a disregard for national security. So, this should not happen.

This rejection is the most significant regarding Ellis' appointment. Ellis' candidacy is known to have been ordered by Miller to be carried out by NSA Director General Paul Hakasone.

The position of General Counsel for the NSA is not a political one, but a civil servant position. The appointment process is carried out step by step, and candidates must have sufficient competence and experience.

Pelosi considered Ellis a figure with limited experience and a relatively recent law school graduate. Also, there was White House interference. This is what Pelosi sees as an irregularity.

"If Mr Ellis did go through the civil service recruitment process, I would ask for a detailed description of that process, to understand how someone with credentials was selected over other eligible candidates," Pelosi wrote.
