JAKARTA - The Sudanese Indonesian Student Association (PPI Sudan) said all Indonesian students in Sudan were safe amid a war situation between the Sudanese military (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

"It is not true that one Indonesian student in Sudan was shot and killed," said PPI Sudan in a written statement received by Antara in Jakarta on Thursday.

PPI revealed that until now the sound of gunfire was still being heard even though the intensity was gradually decreasing.

"Hopefully, this condition shows signs of de-escalation (decreasing) the intensity of attacks between the two parties," said PPI Sudan.

Despite signs of a decrease in the intensity of attacks, said PPI Sudan, all Indonesian students are not allowed to leave their homes or residences at any time.

If anyone has an urgent need to leave the house, PPI Sudan urges them to leave the house from 12.00 to 17.30 local time.

PPI Sudan said Indonesian students at the International University of Africa (IUA) consumed a makeshift menu, even relatively considered less than enough to break their fast.

Logistics stored by PPI Sudan and the volunteer team are running low, the association said. Stock in a number of supermarkets is also said to be getting less and less.

PPISudan appealed to all Indonesian students in Sudan to continue to communicate with his party.

"In this case, the PPI Sudan will continue to coordinate with the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum and related parties to maintain the common good," said PPI.

PPI Sudan, the Indonesian International University of Africa Student Association (IMI IUA), and a number of student activists formed a volunteer team to help with basic needs and urge all Indonesian students in Sudan.

At the same time, the volunteer team also immediately recorded the distribution of the residences of all Indonesian students. Until now, according to the statement, there are around 838 Indonesian students in Sudan who have been registered.

Since the first day of the war, all IUA students (not only Indonesian students) are said to have undergone evacuation at Muktamarut Hall in the IUA Rectorate area in an effort to maintain the safety of all IUA students.

PPI Sudan said it continues to strive to establish communication, distribute aid, and make concrete efforts to support the safety of all Indonesian students in Sudan.

The effort was carried out with the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum, IMI IUA and several student activists who were members of the volunteer team.

Earlier on Tuesday (18/4), the Sudanese PPI and the volunteer team had received donations of around Rp. 65.37 million.

The donation is said to have been distributed in the form of logistics materials and other needs in stages, namely 12 packages for 12 Indonesian student residences in Sudan.

PPI Sudan opened the emergency service number +249 12 229 0184 to help students with urgent needs.
