Wamenkumham Says Bill On Asset Confiscation Has Been Completed, Will Be Sent To DPR

Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkum HAM) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej said the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) had been completed and would be sent to the DPR in the near future. "It's finished. So, yesterday the internal government meeting of ministries and institutions. We have finalized it, right and in the near future we will send it to the DPR,” said Prof. Eddy, Edward's nickname, to reporters at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Office, South Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, April 18. The Asset Confiscation Bill is currently included in the 2023 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) as part of the government's proposal. Therefore, the government will submit the Asset Confiscation Bill to the DPR as a form of completing the government's duties in drafting the bill. On this occasion, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly expressed his hope that the Asset Confiscation Bill could be processed immediately after Eid. "So, we hope that later the president will return (from Germany), finish Lebaran, all will come to work later, we hope (Asset Confiscation Bill) can be processed," said Yasonna. Based on previous reports, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD conveyed that the Draft Law (RUU) on Asset Confiscation was immediately sent to the DPR because all materials that were substantive had been agreed upon by the minister and chairman of the institution. Mahfud MD, during a press conference at his office, Jakarta, Friday (14/4), said that he and the ministers and heads of institutions from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Ministry of Finance, the Attorney General's Office, the National Police, the Center for Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis (PPATK) had bruises on the text of the Asset Confiscation Bill. "Earlier, the meeting tidied up technical and editorial problems, which would not affect the substantive material that was already being initialized by the official earlier," said Mahfud MD. Mahfud also emphasized that there are no internal problems in the government related to the Asset Confiscation Bill.

"So that when the President (Joko Widodo) returns from abroad, we can immediately submit it," said Mahfud.
