JK: PMI Builds Hundreds Of Shelters At The Cianjur Earthquake Location

SUKABUMI - PMI General Chair Jusuf Kalla in a press release received in Sukabumi, Friday, April 7, stated that the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) built hundreds of temporary shelters (huntara) for earthquake victims in Cianjur Regency, West Java.

"Until now, we (PMI) have built 410 shelter units spread across a number of affected villages," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, April 7.

According to JK, Jusuf Kalla's nickname, the shelter was built to ease the suffering of Cianjur earthquake survivors whose houses were heavily damaged, destroyed or unable to be repatriated.

The survivors who received this shelter assistance had previously been collected by the PMI assessment team, then verified. It is hoped that with this shelter, residents' activities can return to normal.

In addition, with this shelter, residents are not susceptible to disease, because if they continue to live in refugee camps with minimal conditions, it is feared that they will be easily attacked by various diseases.

Not only that, PMI also continues to be committed to providing services for six months after the earthquake that hit Cianjur Regency, or since November 21, 2022.

There are six services that are focused on the largest humanitarian institutions in Indonesia, starting from the construction of shelters, the distribution of clean water which has so far reached 8.1 million liters to affected residents.

In addition, health services, water, sanitation and hygiene (Wash), logistics and distribution, as well as data and information. Currently, clean water, shelters and health services continue to be boosted.

"These various humanitarian actions carried out by PMI are also to assist the government in accelerating the handling after the disaster in Cianjur Regency," he added.

Contacted separately, Chairman of PMI Cianjur Regency Ahmad Fikri added that the distribution of clean water is targeted until the end of April and is likely to be extended until May 2023.

Not only that, PMI is also targeting to increase sanitation development in three fostered villages. In addition, the institution will also add and maximize services. "This is a form of PMI's commitment to help earthquake survivors in Cianjur Regency," he concluded.
