Iran Investigate Alleged Drone Attack On Defense Ministry Complex In Isfahan

JAKARTA - Iran thwarted a drone strike against the Ministry of Defense complex in central Isfahan last night, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday, although Tehran said confirmation of the report required further investigation.

"The Amir al-Momentin complex in Isfahan was the target of a failed attack by a small drone thwarted by the defense system," Iran's semi-official news agency, Tasnim, reported, adding the effort did not cause any damage. April 5.

However, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said "For now, I have not been able to confirm this because further investigations are still needed," when questioned by Iranian media about the report in a press conference.

The report comes days after Israeli airstrikes in Syria hit Iranian-linked targets, killing at least two members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who served as military advisers in Syria.

In January, an industrial center of the Ministry of Defense was also targeted by a drone strike, which Iran said was unsuccessful and carried out by "the Zionist regime's mercenaries".

Tehran has usually blamed its arch-foe Israel for such attacks in the past, including a drone strike against a military plant near Isfahan in January.

Israel itself did not confirm or deny responsibility for these attacks.
