A group of youths caught on amateur cameras carrying out illegal levies (extortion) on Jalan Pejompongan Raya, towards Palmerah Station, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta.
In the amateur video, several people can be seen picking up extortion on motorbikes trying to cross the sidewalk.
Some of the youths held a container to ask for money from passing vehicle drivers.
The extortion incident was also uploaded on Instagram social media accounts. The video went viral and reaped various responses from netizens.
Tanah Abang Metro Police Chief Kompol Patar Mula Bona said his party had received the information. However, he will check the truth regarding the alleged extortion.
"I'll check (the information) first," he said briefly when confirmed by VOI, Thursday, March 30.
