NTSC: It Is Impossible For Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 To Reach Speeds Of Almost 100 Kilometers Per Hour In 1 Second

JAKARTA - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) together with Sriwijaya Air met with the families of the SJ-182 passengers and crew on Tuesday, January 12. The meeting was to inform the progress of the investigation process, the cause of the SJ-182 airplane accident.

During the meeting, Chairman of the KNKT Soerjanto Tjahjono asked the families of SJ-182 passengers and crew not to simply trust the analysis circulating on social media.

"The data that is circulating (widely in social media) must be validated, the source and accuracy must be checked. The data in circulation has not yet been validated. NTSC will only provide a statement based on the results of the black box examination," he said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 14.

The head of the NTSC gave an example that the plane's speed in one second turned into 50 knots.

"This is not true. Even racing cars aren't that fast, "he said.

Quoting Metric Conversions, 50 knots equals a speed of 92.6 kilometers per hour. The speed of 1 knot on the page is equivalent to 1.85 kilometers per hour.

Soerjanto appealed to no need to disseminate such speculations.

"Because it's not true," he said.

On this occasion, Chairman of the IKKT Aviation Association Sub Committee Nurcahyo Utomo emphasized that his party would make a detailed and comprehensive report, after the investigation process was actually completed.

"We will present the initial investigation report within 30 days," he said.

According to Nurcahyo, the NTSC has an obligation in accordance with international regulations, to provide an initial report to the public no later than 30 days after the accident occurred.

"However, in those 30 days, it may not include the NTSC analysis, because it takes time to reveal what the cause is, where the problem is, or how to maintain it, everything will be revealed," said Nurcahyo.

Black Box FDR

The Joint Team has succeeded in finding the Black Box (Black Box) in the form of Flight Data Recorder (FDR) of SJ-182 aircraft, on Tuesday, January 12 in the waters of the Thousand Islands.

The findings were officially conveyed by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, together with TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto; Chief of Naval Staff Admiral TNI Yudo Margono; Head of Basarnas Marshal Madya Bagus Puruhito; Chairman of the NTSC, Soerjanto Tjahjono and President Director of Sriwijaya Air, Jefferson Jauwena at the JICT 2 Command Post, Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta.

On this occasion, the Minister of Transportation delivered three instructions from President Joko Widodo. First, handling the disaster must be fast, namely the black box, the bodies of the victims, and pieces of the plane must be removed immediately. Second, compensation and insurance for the victim's family (heirs) must be immediately provided in accordance with applicable regulations. Third, the cause of the accident must be immediately found and become material for the national aviation industry so that the same incident does not happen again.

"Thank you to the President who was so intense in contacting us so that we get moral support and our performance will be better. We hope that the collaboration of the Joint Team will continue until everything is found," he said.
