Jokowi Wants To Seat Menpora To Replace Zainudin Amali As Young People

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wants a replacement for Zainudin Amali who resigned from the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) after serving as Deputy General Chair I of PSSI.

"Young," said Jokowi briefly in response to questions from the media crew when met after attending the COVID-19 Handling Award at the Dhanapala Building, Jakarta, Monday, March 20, which was confiscated by Antara.

President Jokowi said that young people are the desired criteria to fill the position of Minister of Youth and Sports.

Jokowi admitted that he had not yet decided to replace Zainudin Amali even though there were several names that had been proposed by the General Chairperson of Golkar Airlangga Hartarto.

"The Menpora has not yet been decided but the names of the Golkar chairman have entered us but it has not been decided, I have not decided," said Jokowi.

Previously, Zainudin Amali stated officially that he no longer served as Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) after his resignation letter was officially received by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Zainudin Amali resigned because he wanted to focus on managing PSSI considering that at the PSSI Extraordinary Congress on February 16, he was elected as Deputy General Chair I of PSSI.

President Jokowi also appointed the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy as the Acting Minister of Youth and Sports.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Golkar Party DPP Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus said his party offered three names of its cadres to be proposed as Menpora, replacing Zainuddin Amali.

"About Mr. Airlangga (Chairman of the Golkar Party) has deposited three names. Maybe the President will choose three," said Lodewijk.
