JAKARTA - Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is scheduled to visit China on March 26-31. This state visit follows an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, Friday, March 17, Lula will meet President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Qiang and National People's Congress President Zhao Leji in the capital Beijing.

Leaders are expected to discuss bilateral agendas regarding trade, investment, re-industrialization, energy transition, climate change, as well as world peace and security.

Lula is also scheduled to visit the New Development Bank headquarters, formerly known as the BRICS Development Bank, in Shanghai.

The state-run Brazilian Agencia news agency reported that at least 20 trade deals were expected to be signed during the visit, bringing in 200 cross-sector business people and 90 people from the agricultural sector.

The visit will be Lula's third official trip to China, following previous trips in 2004 and 2009, as reported by Antara, Saturday, March 18.

As is known, China is a major importer of Brazilian products, especially agricultural products. Since 2009, China has become Brazil's largest trading partner and one of the major foreign investors in the South American country.

In 1993, the two countries established a strategic partnership, which was upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2012.

Brazil and China will mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024.
