96 Drug Cases With 137 Suspects Revealed By Central Sulawesi Police In The Last 2 Months

The police uncovered 93 cases of drug abuse of methamphetamine in a number of districts of Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) over the past two months.

"About 137 people were arrested by special officers in drug abuse cases," said Head of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police's Sub-Directorate for Public Relations, Kompol Sugeng Lestari, in Palu, Wednesday, March 15.

He explained that of the 137 suspects, there were 118 men and 19 women, and this number was quite large within two months.

"From the crime, evidence of methamphetamine was confiscated by the police for approximately 776.72 grams and 6,454 THD pills. This does not include those that have just been confiscated by the Banggai Regency Police as much as 359.45 grams which was revealed last March 13, " he said in a statement.

He revealed that the disclosure of drug cases by the Central Sulawesi Regional Police and the ranks could not be separated from the information provided by the public, and this would be the police's commitment to eradicate drug trafficking.

Because, he said, illicit drug trafficking not only has a negative impact on health and mentality, but can also disrupt conducive security and public order (kamtibmas).

"The effect of drug abuse is on criminal acts, namely theft, persecution and so on, because several cases handled by the police have something to do with drugs, so we say disturbing the security and social security situation," he said.

He explained, as mandated by Law Number 35 of 2019 concerning narcotics Article 112 states that every person without rights or against the law has, keeps, controls, or provides narcotics class I instead of plants, shall be sentenced to a minimum imprisonment of four years and a maximum of 12 years and a fine of at least Rp. 800 million and a maximum of Rp. 8 billion.

"Based on this law, law enforcement for drug suspects is carried out firmly," he said.
