JAKARTA - YouTube blocks the War Room podcast channel owned by US political activist Steve Bannon after repeatedly violating the rules of Google's platform.

Reported by Antara, Sunday, October 10, the blocking came into force hours after the assistant to the President and Chief Strategist in the Donald Trump administration presented Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Guiliani, on his channel after riots at the US Capitol building on Wednesday, January 6.

"In accordance with our system, we have terminated Steve Bannon's War Room channel and one related channel for repeatedly violating our Community Guidelines," said a YouTube spokesman, quoted by Cnet, Sunday, January 10.

In addition to the War Room channel, YouTube said it had removed other channels associated with Bannon.

Under YouTube's rules, three strikes within a 90 day period result in the channel being removed from the video sharing platform permanently.

The first strike came with a one-week ban on uploading content. Furthermore, a second rebuke came with a two-week ban.

The shutdown of Bannon's channel comes following YouTube's moves to crack down on misinformation and content that could spark violence in the aftermath of the events on the Capitol.

Twitter, Saturday morning, permanently blocked Trump from its platform, while Facebook has suspended Trump's account indefinitely.

YouTube said Bannon's breach was linked to a policy change the company announced on Thursday, January 7.

The platform said it would now issue a strike on any account that posted a video making false claims about US elections.

YouTube first announced a policy update against bogus election claims last month but has a grace period before offenders are punished with bans. The grace period was supposed to end on inauguration day in January, but was changed after riots in the Capitol.

YouTube said it had issued two strikes against Bannon's channel on Thursday, January 7 for two videos that violated the platform's rules.
