Cimanggung Military Command And BPBD Officials Became Landslide Victims In Sumedang

JAKARTA - The Cimanggung Sub-District Military Command (Danramil) and the Sumedang BPBD Emergency and Logistics Section Head were victims of landslides in Cihanjuang Village, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Raditya Jati, in a statement reported by Antara, Sunday, January 10, said that the two officers were also buried by the subsequent landslides while handling the first landslide.

"Of the number of deaths, Danramil Cimanggung Kapt Inf Setio Pribadi and the Head of the Sumedang District BPBD Emergency and Logistics Section (Yedi) also became victims," said Raditya.

The landslide incident occurred on Saturday (9/1) at around 15.30 WIB. Then the joint officers immediately responded by searching for victims buried by landslides.

However, at around 19.30 WIB, another landslide occurred when the area was hit by rain. As a result, the number of victims increased again including the Cimanggung Military Command and the Head of the BPBD Section who died while on duty.

So far, the Sumedang District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has recorded 18 injured victims and 11 deaths.

"Meanwhile, based on information from BPBD, it is estimated that many people are still buried in subsequent landslides," he said.

Now the joint Search and Rescue Team (SAR) has begun to search again since 07.00 WIB. After the subsequent landslide, the officers conducted a search, but it was temporarily stopped at 02.00 WIB due to the situation that was not possible.

Judging from the BMKG weather forecast, this Sunday, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency still has the potential to rain with light intensity to thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, West Java Province has the potential for heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning or strong winds.
