BANYUASIN - The government of Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, needs a budget of IDR 6 billion to completely solve the waste problem in the area.

Banyuasin Regent Askolani Jasi said the budget was to address the problem of waste transportation and processing.

Waste transportation is a problem because currently most of the transportation equipment in Banyuasin is quite badly damaged.

According to Askolani, for this damage, only 20 percent of the total waste production in Banyuasin per day can be transported from each area to the Final Disposal Site (TPA).

The Banyuasin Environment Agency noted that the local non-organic household waste production reaches 400 tons per day, so only 80 tons of waste is transported per day, the rest has not yet been transported to the TPA.

"Seeing the relatively large budget burden and the problems it faces regarding waste, Banyuasin asked the governor for help from a fleet of trucks," he said as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, March 2.

From this budget, it will also be utilized in terms of processing organic waste which is then considered as an economic opportunity for the community and the region.

This organic waste can be processed including into fertilizer, as is currently being developed in the Talang Buluh Village area, Talang Kelapa, Banyuasin.

Banyuasin Regency produces organic waste of up to 240 tons per day.

Based on calculations, this waste can have a selling value of IDR 1,000 per kilogram, so if everything can be processed to become fertilizer, the economic potential will reach IDR 240 million per day or even IDR 87.5 billion per year.
