JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the world's most feared at this time is no longer a pandemic or war but climate change which causes the frequency of world natural disasters to rise dramatically.

"What is the world's fear of today? No longer a pandemic, no longer a war, but what all countries fear more is climate change. And climate change has caused the frequency of natural disasters in the world to rise dramatically," Jokowi said in his remarks at the Opening ceremony of the National Coordination Meeting for Disaster Management, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, March 1.

He said Indonesia occupies the top three countries most prone to disasters. According to him, Indonesia's natural disaster frequency rose 81 percent, from 2010 as many as 1,945 disasters, jumping to 3,544 disasters in 2022.

"We are not just a matter of flooding, not just a matter of volcanic eruptions, not just a matter of landslides. We face more frequent earthquakes and natural and non-natural disasters," said Jokowi.

Therefore, the President emphasized that preparedness and vigilance are the keys in dealing with natural disasters.

He emphasized that the management of pre-disaster, emergency response, and post-disaster must be carried out properly by all parties.
