Sriwijaya Air Aircraft Allegedly Lost Contact Around The Thousand Islands

JAKARTA - Basarnas Public Relations Yusuf Latif said the Sriwijaya plane with flight number SJ 182 was thought to have disappeared around Seribu Island.

"(The plane is lost, red) in the vicinity of Seribu Islands," Yusuf said when contacted by reporters, Saturday, January 9.

Although the plane is thought to have crashed, Basarnas does not want to confirm this. Because, they are currently still heading to the location which is the last coordinate point.

"While it is still lost contact, but for certainty, we are still suspecting, yes, we cannot confirm yet," he said.

"This is a new team to go to the location," he added.

It was reported earlier that the Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 plane for the Jakarta-Pontianak route had reportedly lost contact, on Saturday, January 9. This news was later confirmed by the Director General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Novie Riyanto.

"There has been a lost contact with the Sriwijaya aircraft on the Jakarta-Pontianak route with the SJ 182 call sign," Novie said when confirmed by reporters, Saturday, January 9.

He said the aircraft's last contact was made at 14:40 WIB.
