JAKARTA - The attorneys for six members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) army are not satisfied with the results of the investigation by the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) regarding the shooting incident on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road or what is known as the Karawang Incident.

Even though Komnas HAM has called the shooting of four members of the laskar by the police an act of human rights violations, the attorney represented by M Hariadi Nasution still questions the shooting of the other two members. He also considered that the case construction that was built by Komnas HAM was only based on information from the police as the perpetrator.

"(We, red) regret the construction of the incident that was built by Komnas HAM in connection with the shooting incident whose source of information only came from one party, namely the perpetrator," Hariadi said in a written statement to journalists, Saturday, January 9.

He also assessed that the National Commission on Human Rights seemed to be buying and selling lives because it seemed to legitimize the loss of the lives of two victims through the narrative of the shooting which was questionable.

"But on the other hand, the Indonesian National Commission for Human Rights transacted their lives by saying four people were human rights violations," he said.

Furthermore, Hariadi also regretted the attitude of Komnas HAM which only recommended that this case be resolved through a court process. He wants this case to be resolved through a human rights court.

"If Komnas HAM RI is consistent with the construction of human rights violations, then Komnas HAM RI should recommend a process to resolve the 7 December 2020 tragedy case in Karawang through the process as regulated in Law Number 26 of 2000 concerning Human Rights Courts. Because in our opinion the events of the 7 December 2020 tragedy which occurred happened in Karawang is clearly a gross human rights violation, "he said.

Previously reported, Komnas HAM had submitted the results of their investigation of the Karawang Incident. As a result, they said there were two different contexts in the one shooting incident.

The context of the first incident occurred on Jalan International Karawang until it was thought to have reached KM 48 Cikampek Toll. Komnas HAM said that when this incident occurred, there was a hand in hand, bumping into each other, causing a shootout between the FPI laskar and police officers assigned to follow FPI Grand Imam Rizieq Shihab in an investigation into a case of violation of health protocols.

Furthermore, there is a context for the second incident which was later called by Komnas HAM where human rights violations occurred in it. Because, as many as four FPI laskar who were still alive when brought by the police were actually found dead afterward.

"Regarding the KM 50 incident and above, there were four people who were still alive under the control of state officials who were later found dead so that the incident was a form of human rights violation," said the Commissioner and Chair of the Komnas HAM Investigation Team Choirul Anam in a press conference at his office. Friday, January 8th.

Based on these findings, the deaths of four people were called Komnas HAM as a form of unlawful killing.

"The shooting of four people at one time without any other effort being made to avoid the increasing number of fatalities, indicates an act of unlawful killing of four FPI soldiers," he said.
