GUNUNGKIDUL - The Animal Husbandry and Health Service of Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, intensified monitoring of livestock traffic in a number of animal markets in the region to anticipate the spread of lumpy skin disease (LSD).

Head of the Gunungkidul Animal Husbandry and Health Service Wibawanti Wulandari in Gunungkidul, Monday, said that based on incoming data, so far the number of lumpy skin disease in Gunungkidul is 178 cases, three of which are dead livestock.

"We are trying to suppress the spread, one of which is monitoring the animal market. Especially at the Siyono Harjo Animal Market, there have been findings as well," he said.

He said that currently there are six active LSD cases, namely Playen, Paliyan, Saptosari, Tanjungsari, Tepus, and Girisubo.

"Other sub-districts still have active LSD cases. We ask officers in each sub-district/kapanewon to proactively monitor to prevent LSD cases," he said.

He also hopes that the public will anticipate and report if they find a LSD case so that an examination can be carried out immediately, and prevent transmission.

Furthermore, he also appealed to breeders to keep their cages clean and the environment clean to prevent the spread of LSD.

"We took it out and treated it. Then it was reported to be recorded. Why should it be reported so that it is monitored," he said.

The Gunungkidul Animal Husbandry and Health Service proposed five thousand vaccines for LSD to the Ministry of Agriculture.

He hopes that the livestock vaccine will be distributed soon.

"In addition, we intensify the treatment and minimize the movement of livestock," said Wibawanti.
