Hit By The Wind, Hundreds Of Houses In Banyuwangi Were Torn Apart

As many as hundreds of houses in seven sub-districts in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, were destroyed after being hit by rain accompanied by strong winds.

The Banyuwangi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that at least 106 houses spread across seven sub-districts suffered minor damage to severe damage due to strong winds.

"On Saturday (25/2) evening we received information and BPBD officers to the location to collect data and deal with the strong winds," said Banyuwangi BPBD Task Force Mujito as quoted by Antara, Sunday, February 27.

According to him, the worst areas were the impact of strong winds in Kajarharjo Village, Kalibaru District, as many as 54 houses, and in Yosomulyo Village, Gambiran District, 44 houses were damaged, and one prayer room and two village guard posts.

In Dasri Village, Tegalsari District, 4 houses were damaged by trees, in Ringinputih and Kedung Ringin villages, Muncar District, one house, and two fallen trees hit three public street lights (LPJU) and electricity networks.

"Meanwhile, in Genteng District, no houses were affected, but fallen trees that crossed the highway caused traffic flow to be disrupted. In Cluring District, one house was damaged by a fallen tree, and one house collapsed in Kabat District," said Mujito.

He added that he had coordinated with the local village and sub-district governments as well as other related parties to assess damage from the impact of strong winds.

"Since last night we evacuated a fallen tree that hit a resident's house, including a fallen tree that crossed the highway," said Mujito.
