JAKARTA - A dog selling place in Kapuk Village, Cengkareng District, West Jakarta was raided by officers this morning. Allegedly, the location is also a place for dog meat slaughter. This raid was carried out by officers from the DKI Jakarta KPKP Service who were accompanied by the police, the animal lover community, and members of the DKI Jakarta DPRD. At that location, dozens of dogs were released around the selling site and some were in the cage. DKI Jakarta DPRD member Panji Virgianto, who was involved in the raid, said that no dog meat had been cut. The owner of the location, said Panji, did not admit that there was a dog meat slaughter. However, a burning place was found at the location. "I did not find any execution process. But it was found that there was a burning. The person concerned (the owner of the place) admitted that the burning was for his dog's food. This is something strange. If it is for burning dog food, it smells different. I smell dog wholes in the pile of burning," Panji said when contacted, Friday, February 24. Meanwhile, the founder of Animal Defender animal lover group, Doni Herdaru, suspected that the arson was used to remove the scars of the dog that had been cut. "We found a stove that was on. I think it was used to remove the hair of the dog that was slaughtered," said Doni. Doni's suspicions rose when officers found some pieces of dog bones there. Doni assumes that apart from selling live dogs, the place also provides dog meat cutting services that the buyer chooses. "So this place gives the people who come to choose the dogs directly. If you have chosen, pay, then cut it at the location," he said. Currently, dozens of dogs at the location have been taken to the DKI Jakarta Food, Maritime and Fisheries Security Service (DKPKP) office for medical examination. The owner was also taken for further questioning. From this case, Doni revealed that there were several potential violations. The sale and maintenance of dog meat is suspected of violating Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine; Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food; and Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection.
