JAKARTA - Former terrorist convict Abu Bakar Ba'asyir went straight to his residence in Sukoharjo, Central Java, after being declared pure free from Gunung Sindur Prison, Bogor, West Java, Friday, January 8.

Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Section of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) Rika Aprianti in a written statement in Jakarta, said that Ba'asyir's trip to his residence received escort from Densus 88 Anti-terror at the National Police Headquarters and the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT).

"ABB's (Abu Bakar Ba'asyir) journey to his residence in Sukoharjo, apart from being accompanied by his family and a team of lawyers, was also accompanied by Densus 88 and BNPT," Rika said.

Before being released, Ba'asyir first went through the administrative process and health protocol for the prevention and control of COVID-19. Rika said the results of Ba'asyir's rapid antigen test tested negative for COVID-19.

Furthermore, Ba'asyir was handed over to his family and a team of lawyers who had come to pick him up since midnight.

"ABB was handed over to his family and a team of lawyers who came to pick him up, while still implementing health protocols, which included bringing a negative COVID-19 swab test result," said Rika.

Previously, Abu Bakar Ba'asyir left Gunung Sindur Prison, Bogor Regency, West Java, after carrying out the Fajr prayer at around 05:21 WIB.

Abu Bakar Ba'asyir is seen wearing all-white clothes, glasses and a mask in a white Hyundai minibus with the number plate AD-1138-WA.

The West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights declared Abu Bakar Ba'asyir pure freedom on Friday, January 8, 2021.

Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Imam Suyudi, said that Ba'asyir's release was confirmed according to procedure. According to him, Ba'asyir has served a 15-year sentence minus a 55-month remission.
