East Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regent Lanosin Hamzah asked companies in his area to be ready to anticipate forest and land fires (karhutla) entering the dry season this year.

Lanosin said vigilance as an effort to disaster the smog can be overcome as early as possible.

He also asked the company to ensure that forest and land fire prevention equipment is prepared in good condition so that it can be used optimally when needed at a critical time.

The head of the East OKU BPBD, Mgs Habibullah, added that the preparedness meeting was carried out considering that South Sumatra Province in 2018 was one of the areas that exported smoke to other countries due to forest and land fires that occurred in several areas on Earth, Sriwijaya, including in East OKU.

"Therefore, East OKU previously determined the status of forest and land fire alert as stated in the Decree of the East OKU Regent Number 269 of 2022," he said.

In determining this status, as many as 250 joint personnel are ready to face the dry season so that forest and land fires events can be handled as early as possible.

"Including all forest and land fire equipment that we have prepared, if there is a forest fire or agricultural land, it can be extinguished immediately," he said.

Habibullah reminded all people of East OKU not to burn forests to open agricultural land that could trigger forest and land fires.

"There are criminal sanctions for land burning perpetrators that can trigger forest and land fires," he said.
