8 Village Heads Involved In Corruption, Lecturer UIN Walisongo Semarang, Followed By 3 Years And A Fine Of IDR 50 Million

Eight village heads in Demak Regency, Central Java, were sentenced to 3 years in prison in the alleged bribery case of Rp840 million against lecturer at the State Islamic University (UIN) Walisongo Semarang in the process of selecting village officials in the area. The defendants were also required to pay a fine of Rp. 50 million. If not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 2 months. The eight defendants who were tried were each Head of Gedangalas Turmuji, Head of Jatisono Purnomo Village, Head of Tanjunganyar Alaudin Village, Head of Sambung Siswahyudi Village, Head of Tambirejo Agus Suryanto, Head of Manginarjo Village M. Juanedi, Head of Banjarsari Hariadi Village, and Head of Medini M. Rois Village. "Declaring that the defendant is found guilty of violating Article 5 paragraph (1) of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001," said Public Prosecutor (JPU) Sri Heryono in a trial at the Semarang Corruption Court, Antara, Tuesday, February 14. The corruption crime that occurred in 2021 began when FISIP UIN Semarang became the executor of the test in the selection of village officials in Gajah District, Demak Regency. The eight defendants allegedly promised 16 registrants to fill the positions of apparatus and village secretary by giving some money. They set a price of IDR 150 million for the position of village officials and IDR 250 million for the position of village secretary. In their consideration, the prosecutor stated that the actions of the defendants did not support the government's program in fighting corruption. "The defendants also enjoyed the bribes," he added. Upon these demands, the judge gave the defendants the opportunity to present their defense at the upcoming trial.
