PALU - The Directorate of Traffic (Ditlantas) of the Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) Regional Police noted that around 2,000 traffic violators were caught on an electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE) camera in the Palu City area every day or recorded 24 hours.

"Drivers cannot escape because there are four ETLE camera points installed in Palu City and record traffic activities every day," said Head of Sub-Directorate for Security and Safety of the Central Sulawesi Police, Kompol Abubakar Djafar, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 13.

He stated that the most violations were caught on camera, namely, not wearing seat belts, not wearing helmets and breaking through street lights or traffic lights, so that motorists were immediately prosecuted and confirmed evidence of violations through the Indonesian Post Office.

Abubakar explained that currently there are still six violations that have not been detected by the ETLE camera, one of which is the use of police license plates that are inappropriate or fake and considered a crime.

"There should be 10 violations, but only four can be detected, so that if there are fake plates, it is no longer a violation, but it is considered a crime so it needs to be dealt with," he said. He stated that most of the traffic violators were carried out by teenagers aged 15-26 years, so the police were also aggressively socializing traffic safety at the high school level (SMA) equivalent.

"We are working with the local Education and Culture Office to urge schools not to allow students to carry motorbikes, especially teenagers who do not have a driving license (SIM)," he said.

Abubakar added that in the 2023 Tinombala Safety Operation, his party also provided guidance and counseling, so that the public understood the importance of traffic safety.
