JAKARTA - West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil said Depok City and Karawang Regency are on standby status because they have been in the red zone for a month on the risk map for COVID-19 transmission.

"We are on alert 1 in two areas, namely in Depok and Karawang. It has been four weeks that the red zone continues in our records," he said at Gedung Sate Bandung, reported by Antara, Tuesday, January 5.

"The filling of the isolation rooms, such as in Karawang, is already an emergency, the filling is 110 percent. So this is probably the worst record for the existing one," he added.

He said that the provincial government had asked for support from the Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya to control the transmission of COVID-19 in Depok City and Karawang Regency, which since early December 2020 have been in the red zone, a high risk zone for the transmission of the corona virus.

According to the Governor, the long holidays of Christmas 2020 and New Year 2021 have contributed to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the West Java region.

"In West Java there is an increase, so we conclude that yesterday's long holiday is still having an impact, but not as high as the previous long holiday," he said.

He also explained that the percentage of recovered COVID-19 patients in West Java continues to increase and currently reaches almost 85 percent or higher than the national recovery rate of 82 percent.

"The death rate has also decreased. Alhamdulillah, we are at 1.3 percent, while the national average of deaths is at three percent," he said.

The West Java Provincial Government, he said, continues to strive to increase the capacity of health service facilities in dealing with COVID-19 patients.

"The maintenance capacity that we continue to strive for and thank God the state buildings of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) are already functioning," he said.
