10-Minute Eruption, Mount Kerinci Spews Ash As High As 150 meters

JAKARTA - Mount Kerinci erupted for 10 minutes on Tuesday, at 15.48 WIB. The mountain in Jambi spewed ash up to 150 meters from the top of the peak.

Officer of the Kerinci Volcano Monitoring Post Irwan Safwan said the column of ash was observed to be brown with moderate intensity leaning towards the east.

This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 3 mm and a duration of approximately 10 minutes.

"Our advice is still the same, the public is prohibited from climbing the crater at the top of the Kerinci volcano within a 3 km radius of the active crater," he said in Jambi, Tuesday, February 7, as reported by Antara.

He explained, it is better if the flight path around Mount Kerinci is avoided because at any time it still has the potential for an eruption of ash at a height that can disrupt the flight path.

On Sunday 5 February, at 07.22 WIT Mount Kerinci also experienced an eruption with a height of an ash column observed 200 m above the peak.

The Kerinci Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that a number of villages in Gunung Tujuh District were affected by the eruption of Mount Kerinci's volcanic ash, so they asked residents to wear masks when on the move.

Head of Emergency and Logistics BPBD Kerinci District Armanto said the villages affected by the volcanic ash eruption included Pelompek, Pauh Tinggi, and Sungai Jernih.

"Those affected by Pelompek Village to the east of Pauh Tinggi and its surroundings, but have not disrupted community activities," he said.

He explained that the appeal to the use of masks by the local community had been carried out through the sub-district and village heads.

The effort, he said, was carried out considering that several villages on Mount Seven were affected by the eruption of Mount Kerinci.
