DENPASAR - Chairman of the Bali Provincial KPU Dewa Agung Gede Lidartawan announced that a senior figure who is a senator and former regent who is also a candidate for the 2024 DPD Election Anak Agung Gde Agung resigned.

"The reason is because he complied with the purtorium's request to carry out (obligation) more as the distiller of Puri Ageng Mengwi in religious activities, customs, traditions and culture," Lidartawan said as quoted by ANTARA, February 5.

In Denpasar, Sunday, Lidartawan said that the letter of resignation from bacalon, who is currently a member of Committee III of the DPD RI, was handed over to the Bali KPU office this afternoon.

"So we accepted his resignation this afternoon, the contact came here. For us, before being appointed as candidates or candidates, please, let alone clearly resign for reasons of activities in the purvisory," said the chairman of the Bali KPU.

Lidartawan said that there are no rules regarding sanctions if prospective DPD candidates resign, but refer to PKPU Number 7 of 2017 sanctions are only given if they have been determined as candidates.

So far, the candidate for the 2024 DPD Election Anak Agung Gde Agung has passed the administrative verification stage with total support meeting the requirements is 2,416.

Furthermore, if the senior senator does not resign, the stage process that will be passed is factual verification, but now the Bali KPU will only continue the stages of 18 candidates.

Agung Gde Agung's son, who is a former Regent of Badung 2005-2010, in his letter expressed his gratitude for the support during the 2024 General Election.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the supporters or sympathizers who have worked well to help me, as well as an apology if with this decision there are those who feel disappointed and unhappy," he concluded in a letter signed together.
