171 PMIs From Bantul Departured Early 2023, The Highest Number In DIY

A total of 171 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), have departed throughout early 2023.

The head of the Bantul Manpower and Transmigration Office, Istirul Widiastuti, said that PMI's departure was carried out through two mechanisms. Through the online listing of the application, Sisko, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), or through facilitated by the agency.

"And now from the end of 2022 early 2023 for Bantul, we have dispatched 171 workers, and that number is the highest compared to the four regencies/cities in DIY," he said in Bantul, Sunday, February 5, as reported by Antara.

According to him, related to the placement of the PMI, his party continues to link the task between UPT BP2MI DIY and local governments, so it is hoped that there will be no obstacles, such as illegal departures, or problematic PMI repatriation.

"However, if there are obstacles, we can share the perception of how to overcome it, how to provide the best solution for our brothers and sisters who work abroad," he said.

He explained that the high public interest in becoming PMI and working abroad is because on average they want to improve their standard of living as well as their families.

"So they are looking for business capital, for example, salary if they work here and abroad, it's different, so usually after they work two to three years they get capital, later here they will open up independent employment opportunities," he said.

Furthermore, he said, in Bantul Regency there are also PMI associations, and the majority of them have various businesses, both in the culinary field and so on.

In fact, he said, the Bantul Regency Manpower and Transmigration Office also provided facilities for those who had returned home after working as PMI for online or online marketing training at the office.
