JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Public Housing and Settlement Areas (DPRKP) Sarjoko responded to the advice of the DKI DPRD to take over the management of Wisma Atlet Kemayoran and Wisma Atlet Pademangan.

The DPRD advises the DKI Provincial Government to manage Wisma Atlet to function as flats to health care facilities.

"Regarding the discourse on Wisma Atlet for us to ask for it with a plan to use it as a rusunawa or be combined with hospital services, of course this is very possible," said Sarjoko on Thursday, February 2.

It's just that, continued Sarjoko, the DKI Provincial Government is still considering the level of community housing needs around the Pademangan and Kemayoran areas first, before submitting a takeover of its management.

"However, we have not been able to take pictures because so far we have never identified the needs of the flats around there," said Sarjoko.

Previously, the Chairman of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Ida Maheasy, saw that the DKI Provincial Government could apply for the takeover of the management of Wisma Atlet to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) as the building owner.

"I think there is nothing wrong with the DKI Regional Government also processing it for us to ask, make the top flat, we will build a child hospital under it. We need it. This is quite large, you know, Wisma Atlet is, there is Wisma Atlet Kemayoran, there is Wisma Atlet Pademangan," said Ida.

According to Ida, the management of Wisma Atlet by the DKI Provincial Government is better done because the building is no longer used by the central government as a place for isolation of COVID-19 patients.

Bearing in mind, as of early January 2023, BNPB stopped operating Wisma Atlet towers for handling COVID-19 and only alerted one tower in anticipation of an increase in corona cases.

"We don't need prestige, really. Right, the central government is our parents. We have succeeded in (managing) what is in the Grass Market, now we add more Wisma Atlet. Instead of stalling for a long time, it's empty, there are many kuntil children. I know it's a place for kuntilanak," said Ida.

Initially, Wisma Atlet was built as a place to stay for athletes during the 2018 Asian Games and Asian Para Games. After that, Wisma Atlet was not inhabited for more than a year.

At that time, the DPRD had advised the DKI Provincial Government to apply for a permit for the management of Wisma Atlet. However, before processing, the COVID-19 pandemic has hit all over the world, including Indonesia. Thus, Wisma Atlet is again used as a COVID-19 emergency hospital.
